Subtitle Editor

Edit Subtitles in Real Time, Right in Your Browser

CutSnap's built-in subtitle editor combines the precision of a professional caption tool with the simplicity of a text editor. Every change you make is reflected on the live video preview instantly — no render queue, no page reload.

Benefits
Why Subtitle Editor in CutSnap
Click-to-Edit Captions
Click any subtitle block on the timeline or in the text panel to edit it inline. There are no modal dialogs or separate edit views — the video pauses and your cursor lands directly in the text.
Live WYSIWYG Preview
The Remotion-powered player renders your subtitles exactly as they will appear in the exported video. Font, size, colour, position — every property is reflected in real time as you type.
Keyboard-First Workflow
Navigate between subtitle blocks with arrow keys, split a block at the cursor with a shortcut, and merge adjacent blocks without lifting your hands from the keyboard.
How It Works
Inside the CutSnap Subtitle Editor
1

Three-panel layout

The editor is divided into three panels: the video preview on the left, the subtitle block list in the centre, and the style inspector on the right. Each panel updates reactively, so editing the text in the centre panel immediately moves the subtitle on the preview player.

2

Timing adjustment without a timeline scrubber

CutSnap avoids the clunky waveform timeline found in legacy desktop software. Instead, each subtitle block displays its start and end time as editable number inputs. Click a time, type the new value in seconds or milliseconds, and the player jumps to that position so you can verify the sync immediately.

3

Non-destructive editing

All edits are stored as a JSON caption document in the database, entirely separate from your original video file. You can undo and redo every change, reset to the original AI transcript, or export different subtitle variants without affecting the source file.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions

Can I import an existing SRT or VTT file?

SRT and VTT import is on the roadmap. Currently, CutSnap generates captions from your video via AI transcription and lets you edit from there.

Can I export just the subtitle file without burning them into the video?

Yes. CutSnap can export your captions as an SRT file independently of the video, useful for uploading to YouTube or Vimeo as a separate subtitle track.

How many subtitle blocks can the editor handle?

The editor is tested with transcripts up to 2,000 blocks. Performance is smooth because only visible blocks are rendered in the DOM.
