Custom Styling

Design Subtitles That Match Your Brand

Generic white text on a black bar is no longer enough. CutSnap gives you a full visual design toolkit for subtitles — pick fonts, choose gradient colours, add outlines, set positioning, and see every tweak reflected on the video preview before you export a single frame.

Benefits
Why Custom Styling in CutSnap
Full Colour & Font Control
Select any hex colour for your subtitle text and background. Choose from a curated library of web-safe and Google Fonts. Adjust font weight, size, letter spacing, and line height to match your brand guidelines.
Background & Shadow Effects
Add a semi-transparent pill background, a drop shadow, or a hard text outline. Each effect has individual opacity and blur controls so you can fine-tune legibility on any background footage.
Flexible Positioning
Place subtitles at the bottom, top, or centre of the frame. Adjust the vertical offset in pixels for precise placement, especially useful when the subject's face is at the bottom of the shot.
How It Works
How Custom Styling Works in CutSnap
1

Style inspector panel

The right-hand panel in the editor is the style inspector. It exposes every CSS-level property that affects how subtitles render: font family, font size, font weight, colour, background colour, background opacity, border radius, padding, text shadow X/Y/blur/colour, and vertical/horizontal position. All controls are sliders, colour pickers, or dropdowns — no manual CSS editing required.

2

Real-time WYSIWYG feedback

CutSnap's Remotion-based preview renders the video composition in a browser canvas. When you change a style property, the canvas re-renders within a single animation frame, giving you instant visual feedback. What you see in the editor is a pixel-perfect match for what will be burned into the exported video.

3

Styles saved per project

Your style choices are stored as part of the video project in the database. Return to any project days later and your custom font, colour, and shadow settings are exactly as you left them. You can also save styles as a reusable Style Profile to apply across multiple projects.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use custom fonts from Google Fonts?

Yes. CutSnap loads Google Fonts at render time, so any font available in the Google Fonts library can be used for your subtitles.

Do the exported subtitles look exactly like the preview?

Yes. Both the preview and the FFmpeg export use the same Remotion composition, so fonts, sizes, colours, and positions are identical.

Can I apply different styles to different subtitle blocks?

Currently styles are global per project. Per-block styling is planned for a future release. Style Profiles let you switch entire style sets instantly.
